One man’s instinct proved right after he won a life-changing prize from a $10 scratch-off ticket.
That’s the story of a Richmond County man who scored one of the top prizes from the North Carolina Education Lottery’s Cashword King ticket.
The fortunate player purchased his lucky Cashword King ticket from CAPL Retail on South Main Street in Laurinburg.
In an interview for an official with the Lottery, the lucky man admitted that heenjoysplaying crossword-style scratch-off tickets.
"I like to have a coffee, take my time and enjoy myself when I play," the man admitted.
What’s interesting in his case is that he had a good feeling about buying the $10 Cashword King ticket.
"Something just told me to get that ticket. I had that feeling," the fortunate man said.
Interestingly enough, trusting his gut was a right call as the Marston man won a $1m top prize from the $10 scratch-off game.
Earlier this week, the lucky man visited the Lottery’s headquarters to claim his newfound fortune.
As is the case with large lottery prizes, the winner was presented with a choice to collect the full $1m prize via annuity payments of $50,000 for 20 years, or take home a one-time lump sum of $600,000.
The Richmond County man selected the latter option and after the applicable state and federal taxes, collected $432,063.
Asked about his plans for his newfound fortune, the lottery player said he will help his family and church.
Each Cashword King ticket costs $10, and it offers players a chance to win a prize between $10 and $1m.
Undoubtedly, the lucky Marston man will always remember this lottery win, considering that the odds of scoring $1m in Cashword King are 1 in 1,208,752.5.
After the Richmond County man’s top prize win, now, only one top prize of $1m remains in play.
In Cashword King there are two tier-two prizes of $10,000 each, as well as two tier-three prizes of $5,000 each.
Within the lower prize tiers, between $2,000 and $10, many more prizes remain in play.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the Cashword King ticket are 1 in 3.57.
