  • A man who had a near-death experience during a July 4 parade in Fremont, California, won a six-figure jackpot
  • The win occurred after nearly 10 years and not before the winner, one Duane, had to deal with more hardship
  • Jackpot lottery wins happening most unexpectedly continue to circulate in news headlines

Fortune does smile at certain people twice - first by surviving a brush with death and then by being rewarded with a six-figure jackpot.

This is the story of a jackpot winner who scooped $500,000 ten years after surviving a dangerous incident that took place on July 4, and challenging years in the immediate wake of the accident that set the victim’s entire life ablaze.

Past troubles do not prevent a man from winning a $500K lottery jackpot

The player, identified as Duane, and his daughter, then 18 months old, were among five people to have been hurt at the Fremont’s Fourth of July parade back in 2017. An antiquated truck crashed into two tractors during the parade, causing injuries to bystanders.

Duane's luck turned for the worse at this point, as he suffered multiple heart attacks in the years to follow and lost his job, with his story featured in the official press release by the Ohio Lottery, which recounted the difficult patch that the man had to go through before finally getting back on his feet

The immediate wake of these events felt to Duane like he was being punished, but ultimately, he was just thankful to have survived these horrible events, and his will to carry on for his family proved stronger, with the recent win from the lottery feeling like a justification for the hardship he had gone through.

The award felt surreal to the man, who said that he couldn’t believe his luck at first and thought there was a mistake. But surely, after checking again, his $10 Money Money Money scratcher paid off the exact amount he thought was a mistake - $500,000. The ticket was also bought in Fremont, at Hy-Miler at 801 W State St.

"I looked at it for a long time. At first, I thought something was wrong," he told the lottery, with the man opting for the lump sum payment, and scooping a total of $366,250.

Lottery wins continue to reward players in the most unexpected ways

Another great lottery story took place in Michigan recently, where a woman pulled up for a quick tank refill only to leave the gas station with a $655,130 jackpot.

The winner, who preferred to stay anonymous, bought her winning ticket at the Sunoco on 25100 Little Mack Avenue in St. Clair Shores.

Another happy win off a scratch ticket occurred in Illinois, where a woman bought a $10 ticket and ended up winning the $1,000,000 prize. Bucking the trend, the winner opted for a photo-op with her husband and revealed her name as Cynthia.
