An incredibly lucky Red Springs, North Carolina woman won a six-figure lottery prize after using birthday numbers.
The woman beat the odds of 1 in 1 million to win the top prize from a recent Cash 5 drawing.
Confirmation regarding the jackpot win came from the North Carolina Education Lottery on Wednesday.
The fortunate woman purchased her Cash 5 ticket via Online Play. She matched all five winning numbers from the game’s September 1 drawing for a sweet $130,000 jackpot win.
In a recent interview for the North Carolina Education Lottery, the fortunate woman said that the numbers she chose represented her birthday, her child’s birthday and her grandson’s birthday.
Interestingly, the lucky woman almost missed the jackpot when thinking of changing the numbers she used.
However, her daughter told her to keep using the same set of birthday numbers.
"She was like, ‘You’d better keep playing them!," the Robeson County winner said while laughing.
This week, the fortunate player visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her newfound fortune.
After the applicable state and federal taxes, the Red Springs woman’s bank account increased by $93,613.
Asked about her plans for the jackpot prize, the winner admitted that she will finish renovations to her bathrooms.
Cash 5 drawings take place daily, and each $1 ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $1 and a progressive jackpot starting from $100,000.
To win the game’s top prize, players need to match five winning numbers between 1 and 43.
The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 962,598.0.
An extra $1 per play unlocks the game’s Double Play feature for a chance to win in a second drawing.
Another $1 per play unlocks the game’s EZ Match feature, granting players a shot at instant prizes.
The jackpot from Cash 5 survived on Wednesday and now an estimated $217,000 is up for grabs in today's drawing.
