Maryland lottery player in disbelief after $100K scratch-off win

A lucky man was in disbelief after a $10 scratch-off ticket brought him a six-figure fortune.

That’s the story of a Middle River man, who won one of the top prizes from the Maryland Lottery’s 50X the Cash game.

"I thought it must be a misprint"

The winner, who said in an interview with an official from the Maryland Lottery, that he sometimes buys lottery tickets, decided to try his luck with the $10 scratch-off.

He purchased his ticket at the Royal Farms store on 12545 Eastern Avenue in Dundalk.

Instead of scratching the ticket off right away, the player decided to take it home first.

Interestingly, the lucky man admitted that he has previously won several prizes of more than $100, but never a life-enhancing six-figure sum.

Deciding to scratch off the ticket, the player was surprised that a $100,000 sum appeared under one of the matching numbers.

"I was confused when I saw the ticket. I thought it must be a misprint," the man said, recalling the moment of the big win.

Looking at the ticket in disbelief, the man said: "my brain said $100,000 but I thought, it must be $100. That can’t be real."

As the thought of winning the $100,000 top prize from the 50X the Cash ticket was sinking in, the player decided to call his wife to give her the good news.

Considering that he didn’t want to tell her over the phone, he said: "We need to talk."

The winner’s wife thought something was wrong, but once she met her husband, she was pleasantly surprised by the life-enhancing prize.

The couple spoke about their future plans with the husband saying: "The last thing I want to do is spend it!"

They admitted that they may consider investing some of the winnings and saving most of their newfound fortune.

Still, the lucky Middle River man added that he will continue buying scratch-off tickets every now and then.

50X the Cash offers a range of prizes up to $100,000

Each 50X the Cash ticket offers 25 chances to win a prize of up to $100,000.

The tickets cost $10 and the minimum prize they can win is $10.

Out of nine top prizes of $100,000 each, now, only two remain in play.

A tier-two prize from the Maryland Lottery’s 50X the Cash awards $50,000 and out of 10 such prizes at launch, five are still up for grabs.

Players who score a tier-three prize from the $10 ticket will be looking forward to a $10,000 payday and there are 11 such prizes in play.

Within the lower prize tiers, many more prizes between $1,000 and $10 are up for grabs.

The overall odds of winning any prize from 50X the Cash are 1 in 3.29.
