A retiree wept tears of joy and now plans to travel after a multi-million-dollar lottery jackpot.

That’s the story of one North Brisbane, Queensland, Australia man who scored a life-changing prize from Oz Lotto.

Oz Lotto drawing makes one retiree rich

The fortunate man, a Geebung dad, decided to give the Oz Lotto game a try. He purchased his 6-game QuickPick entry from The Lott’s official website.

The player entered Oz Lotto’s drawing 1697 on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Interestingly, the incredibly lucky retiree emerged as the winner of the only division one winning entry across Australia for a once-in-a-lifetime prize of AU$4m ($2.9m).

It has taken days for the winner to realize that he had won a life-changing lottery prize.

The fortunate man was contacted by The Lott, but unfortunately the lottery official couldn’t get through to the winner.

In an interview for The Lott, the Geebung dad admitted that he had difficulty checking his ticket and asked his son to do it. He was later told that he won the whopping AU$4m ($2.9m) prize.

"My son came around on the weekend and I was sort of at a loss while checking my ticket so he did it for me. He goes to me, ‘Dad, you’ve won $4 million! You need to call into The Lott’," the fortunate player said.

The lucky retiree explained that he often turns off his phone, so it isn’t surprising that The Lott couldn’t get through to him last week.

"Thank you! Sorry, I’m crying," said the lucky man, weeping tears of joy.

With the multi-million-dollar prize, the fortunate player is now looking forward to traveling.

"My late wife’s family is from up North, so I’ll go see them as well. Thank you! I can’t believe it," the Geebung retiree said in conclusion.

The chances of winning the division one prize in Oz Lotto based on one standard game are 1 in 62,891,499.
