- The fortunate woman selected the annuity payments option of $100,000 for 10 years
- One top prize is up for grabs from the $100,000 a Year ticket
- The lucky woman, who is in her 60s now, won another hefty lottery prize when she was in her 20s
There's a saying that lightning never strikes twice, but that does not seem to apply to luck.
A woman from Virginia learned this only recently after winning a life-changing prize from a popular scratch-off game.
The winner selected to receive the full $1m via annuity payments of $100K per year
On Monday, the Virginia Lottery announced that one Gloucester woman scored the top prize from its scratch-off game, $100,000 a Year.
The fortunate woman purchased her ticket at Food Lion on 7465 Hargett Blvd. in Gloucester.
The woman scratched off the ticket and then asked her daughter: "Are you sitting down? 'Cause I have something to tell you."
Scoring the top prize, the Gloucester woman was given two options: collect a lump cash sum of $816,000 before the applicable taxes, or take home a total of $1m via annuity payments of $100,000 per year for 10 years.
Usually, most lottery players select the former option and take home a lump cash sum.
However, in the case of the fortunate woman, she picked the latter option and decided to split the $100,000 per year with her two daughters.
The cost for the $100,000 a Year scratch-off ticket is $20 and each ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $20 and $1m.
The odds of winning the top prize from the popular lottery game are 1 in 612,000, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 2.91.
After the win of the Gloucester woman, now, only one top prize remains in play.
The recent lottery win wasn't the first one for the lucky woman
What's interesting about the story of the woman, who is now in her 60s, is that the latest prize wasn't her first major lottery win.
Back when she was in her 20s, the lucky woman won $25,000 by playing the Virginia Lottery once again.
At the time, she purchased a house with that windfall and now, thanks to her newfound fortune, she said that she plans to extend this house with the addition of more rooms.
Moreover, the fortunate woman admitted to planning to buy "an affordable Corvette."
On the other hand, her daughters, who also stand to receive a share of the winnings every year for the next 10 years, will use the money to buy their own houses.
