  • In a recent Powerball drawing, a Kingsville man, who is a regular lottery player, won a tier-two prize of $1m
  • The winner, a former Baltimore City police officer, already has plans for his newfound fortune
  • The Powerball jackpot is an estimated $119m for the game’s next drawing on Saturday

A retired police officer will be looking forward to a vacation after winning a million-dollar prize.

That’s the story of one Baltimore City, Maryland, former police officer from Kingsville who missed the Powerball jackpot but still won a $1m tier-two prize.

Matching five brings $1m prize

The fortunate man was described as a regular lottery player, a press release by the Maryland Lottery confirms.

Interestingly, while the man usually bought his lottery tickets from Walmart in Fallston, when he decided to play earlier this month, he forgot to purchase a ticket for Powerball from that location.

Instead, the Kingsville man stopped at the nearby Harvest Fare store on 2315 Belair Road in Fallston and bought a ticket for Powerball’s August 10 drawing.

Interestingly, the fortunate man matched all winning numbers on that drawing with the exception of the red Powerball. As a result, he scored a life-changing, tier-two prize of $1m.

The Kingsville man checked his ticket while in his car the day after the drawing but initially didn’t see that he matched five white balls.

Going home to his daughter, he handed her the ticket, and this is when he heard the news that he had just become a millionaire.

This was an incredibly pleasant surprise for the former Baltimore City police officer, considering that he thought that he had won a significantly smaller prize.

With his newfound fortune, the man said that he plans to pay off a recreational vehicle he recently purchased and settle some bills.

Moreover, the lucky player said he plans to take a trip to Florida.

Powerball jackpot hits $119m for upcoming drawing

The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The popular draw game’s jackpot survived on Wednesday, so it will be an estimated $119m for Saturday.

The cash option for the Powerball jackpot on Saturday is an estimated $51.1m.

The odds of winning the top prize from the popular game are 1 in 292.2m.
