Might be best not to follow the rabbit down this particular hole. A low volatility and middling RTP (96.06%) means this slot is not our cup of tea.
Read full reviewAlice in Wonderland is perhaps the most prolifically adapted book in all of slot history. In BF Games’s adaptation – simply entitled Alice in Wonderland – the style is heavily art nouveau, though it still borrows some of its tone from the famous original illustrations of the book by John Tenniel.
Present, as you might expect, are the usual suspects: Alice and her headband, the White Rabbit with his watch, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat.
They didn’t stretch to the Queen of Hearts, otherwise they would have won full bingo for things people know about Alice In Wonderland if they had never read the book as a child.
It’s a classic theme dealt with in a classic manner.
The graphics are excellent. However, the slot doesn’t deal very well with scaling. Full screened on a computer it looks clean and crisp but on a phone or a small browser window the visuals become pixelated and the font sizes overly small.
Once the game is full screen though, the game is pretty enough with a lovely watercolour style to the imagery and backgrounds.
The animations are simple but work well, with magical flourishes here and there. The music is a pleasant ambient track that adds to the atmosphere of, well, wonder. But it manages to do so without being invasive.
Alice in Wonderland is a five reel slot sporting three rows and an any way wins system with 243 ways to win. The any way wins system means that winning combinations are made by the same symbols in adjacent reels so long as they run left to right starting from reel one.
There is a gamble feature for those who want a little more variance. As with many games, it is a simple game where the player must pick the colour of the next card off an infinite deck. The odds are 2:1 on each bet.
The bonus is a free spin bonus (details below).
The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol.
Hitting three or more Scatter symbols on one spin triggers ten free spins with a randomly chosen expanding symbol. These free spins can be retriggered.
During the free spins, Wild symbols come in stacks of three and appear on reels two to five. As a result, it is possible to land twelve of these symbols at once.
In the base game, the Drink symbol is stacked and plays as both a Wild and as a regular symbol.
The return to player of this game is 96.06%, spot on our yardstick for average of roughly 96%.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.25 up to a maximum of $/£/€200.00 per spin.
The volatility of this game is low, which makes it a very poor match for our preferred slot machine strategies. Our slot strategies target the highest possible volatility.
Alice in Wonderland is a pretty slot, but lacks substance.
While the design and soundtrack are excellent, the average RTP coupled with low volatility makes this slot a poor match for our strategies.
In almost all other ways, this slot is perfectly fine. It doesn’t thrill the player, but nor does it make any huge missteps. If the low variance isn’t a dealbreaker for you, this game will probably be satisfactory, if unexciting.
