20 Super Hot is actually super not. While the jackpot potential is appealing, the RTP, volatility and style of the base game all come in well below temperature.
Read full reviewSuper Hot attempts to do what dozens of other slots have tried to do before it. It sets out to make an old pub fruit machine feel alive again in the 21st Century. It fails.
The theme, such as it is, is little more than a rehash of the classics. Lucky Sevens, various types of fruit, and Star Symbols for the Scatter.
The only gesture towards something new is the addition of fire animations to work with the "hot" theme and a vaguely orange colour scheme.
The graphics are technically competent. The images are clean and clear, the animations smooth and sufficiently flashy. But there is little individuality to the style. Everything feels like it was prepared by averaging out one hundred other slots.
No effort has been made on the soundtrack either. There is no music and the sound effects are few in number. They also appear to have been lifted from other slots by EGT.
The gameplay is fairly simple. There is no bonus game to speak of. Instead, there is a randomly awarded jackpot.
The base game has twenty win lines scattered across five reels of three rows each.
There is a gamble feature in which the player can play double or nothing with their winnings thereby upping the volatility of the game.
The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol. The Scatter symbol pays out from anywhere on the reels.
There are no Bonuses or Free Spins. Instead, the big prizes come in the form of progressive jackpots. There are four jackpots of varying sizes, each one with a suit of cards associated with it. The fastest-growing jackpot is the Spade Jackpot, followed by the Diamond Jackpot, then the Heart Jackpot, and last of all Club Jackpot. This is also the most likely order of size, though this does depend on how many times a jackpot is awarded in a given period.
A player can be awarded a Jackpot at random at the end of any spin. When a player is awarded a jackpot, they must play a picking game to determine which jackpot they win. Twelve cards are placed face down and the player turns cards over one at a time. The player then wins the jackpot associated with the first suit to come up three times in the picking game.
The return to player of this game is 95.79%, a little lower than we would like. We use a measure of around 96% for average.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.20 up to a maximum of $/£/€120.00 per spin. A very good range that should work well for most bet size preferences.
The volatility of this game is low, which makes it a very poor match for our preferred slot machine strategies, as these strategies require the highest possible volatility. However, when one factors in the Jackpot system, they might find that the volatility meets their needs.
20 Super Hot is a rather bland offering from EGT. One of several very similar slots in the "Hot" series from that studio. Not only is it indistinguishable from the other games in that series; it fails to differ from most games in the similar Fruit Machine style.
Therefore the main appeal of the slot is found elsewhere. Particularly in the enormous jackpots which players can be awarded at random. This also makes the volatility rating deceptive as the "low" rating applies only to the base game.
