A lottery player in North Carolina who had a bad day at work was pleasantly surprised by a hefty win.
On Saturday, the North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed that a Clinton player scored the first top prize from a recently launched lottery game.
The lucky lottery player purchased her $5 Prize Link Multiplier ticket from Bonnetsville Kwik Stop on Roseboro Highway in Clinton.
Speaking to a Lottery official, the woman said that she had a tough day at work and wanted to give the new lottery game a chance.
"I decided to stop for some scratch-offs after a terrible day at work. It always lifts my spirits when I play," the woman admitted.
To her surprise and shock, the Clinton woman scored the first top prize from the game for a sweet $200,000 payout.
Winning a six-figure prize may be overwhelming and the woman admitted that she initially didn't believe she had just won.
"I had to pinch myself. I didn’t think it was real," the winner admitted.
When asked if she plays the lottery, the fortunate winner admitted that she likes to buy tickets for new games when they launch.
On Friday, the Clinton woman arrived at the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters to claim her big win.
Considering that state and federal taxes apply to lottery winnings, after the relevant deductions, the Clinton resident's bank account increased by $143,501.
Asked if she has plans about the big windfall, the woman said that she will pay some bills and start planning her retirement.
The North Carolina Education Lottery's Prize Pink Multiplier scratch-off game was released on April 1, 2025.
Each ticket costs $5 per play and grants players a chance to win prizes between $5 and $200,000.
The overall odds of winning any prize from Prize Pink Multiplier are 1 in 4.31.
On the other hand, the odds of winning the $200,000 top prize from the popular game are 1 in 1,234,116.
After the first $200,000 prize was hit, now, four such top prizes remain in play.
A tier-two prize awards $10,000. Out of 10 such prizes at the release of the new scratch-off game, now, nine remain up for grabs.
The odds of winning a tier-two prize of $10,000 are 1 in 617,058.
