A lottery player who recently won a sweet $50,000 prize from one of Maryland Lottery's popular FAST Play games already knew what to do with the unexpected windfall.
On Tuesday, the Lottery confirmed in a press release that an Essex resident was the latest person to score a hefty prize from a FAST PLAY game.
The identity of the lucky winner remains a secret but they selected the nickname "Mary" to share the story about the win.
The woman from Baltimore County purchased a $5 FAST PLAY ticket for the Lottery's Lightning Cash game from a vending machine at the Royal Farms store on 10740 Pulaski Highway in Baltimore County.
To the surprise of the winner, once she scanned her ticket, she realized that she won one of the game's top prizes, $50,000.
Selling the top prize ticket, the business will receive a $500 bonus.
The fortunate woman already had plans for the unexpected windfall.
Speaking to Lottery officials, "Mary" admitted that she will buy a new family car.
Additionally, the lottery player said that she would save part of the lottery win.
As a seasoned lottery player, "Mary" admitted that she will keep playing the lottery.
"Without a doubt! I plan to pick up more tickets on my way home. Hopefully, I can win a top prize again," she said.
The Essex resident spoke about the day she won the big prize.
After realizing that she scored one of the game's top prizes, the woman said that she kept quiet and didn't want to draw attention to herself while at the store where she bought the ticket.
However, "Mary" said that once she got in her car, she started to scream with joy.
"But when I got in the car, I screamed and shouted so loud my family thought something was wrong with me! Once I told them, they started dancing like they had won the money themselves," explained the lucky winner.
"Mary" admitted that she has been playing the lottery for more than 20 years and really liked FAST PLAY games.
She told Lottery officials that over the years, she won prizes that varied in size, but the latest $50,000 win was the biggest one for her yet.
The Maryland Lottery's FAST PLAY Lightning Cash game launched on January 8 this year.
After the recent $50,000 top prize win, there are 13 such prizes remaining in play.
A tier-two prize from Lightning Cash awards $2,500 and while there were 60 such prizes at the start, 51 remain in play.
The game $5 lottery game offers players a chance to win prizes between $10 and $50,000.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the Lightning Cash game are 1 in 4.58.
