Rapper Lil Baby had a confession to make during a December 18 appearance on Lil Yachty’s A Safe Place podcast during which he spoke about his own struggles with gambling addiction – and possibly, his redemption story.
Lil Baby realized he had a problem when, after "one day" of playing at a casino, he lost "like" $8m or $9m making him take a good hard look at his behavior. The rapper added that he must have been playing for "40 hours" to amass that much loss.
Lil Baby’s costly mistake, though, did set him on the right path, as he "don’t gamble no more," something he seemingly achieved through sheer power of will, but also with the help of Fanatics CEO Mike Rubin who helped out by writing a letter to "every casino" and have the artist banned from the premises, the rapper explained.
Lil Baby’s confession got a reaction from other popular artists, including 50 Cent who also appeared on the Safe Place podcast a few days later on December 22, and said that it was good that the rapper had stopped before things had got too far, suggesting that losing that much money would make a man want to kill a man.
"I thought only Floyd do s- like that," 50 Cent blasted on the podcast. Yet, Lil Baby is hardly the only rapper who has been known to gamble a lot.
Another emcee who engages in a similar behavior is none other than Canadian artist and songwriter Drake, who most recently lost $210,000 on the US Open final and who has been known to cozy up to athletes and back them up with huge amounts of money before key competitions.
More of Drake’s sports acquaintances have grumbled that this was adding too much pressure, and perhaps making them more likely to lose – giving rise to the popular joke about the "Drake curse," the belief that if Drake is betting on you, you are going to lose.
