A woman was in disbelief after winning a life-enhancing six-figure prize from a scratch-off ticket.
That’s the story of one Robeson County winner who beat the odds of 1 in 1.6m to win $250,000 from a new lottery game.
The fortunate winner, a Saints Pauls resident, decided to give the 500X The Cash lottery ticket a try.
The game, offering prizes of up to $10m, was released on January 30, 2026.
The winner’s $50 ticket was purchased at Gray’s Creek BP on N.C. 87 South in Fayetteville.
After scratching off the ticket, the woman was in disbelief, seeing that she won a tier-two prize of $250,000.
Speaking to an official from the North Carolina Education Lottery, the lucky woman said that she wanted to immediately give the good news to her husband.
"I called my husband. I told him, ‘I won, I won," the Robeson County woman said, recalling the moment she won the tier-two prize.
With excitement, the winner added: "I still can’t believe it. I never thought I would win a big prize."
The Saint Pauls resident visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters last week to claim her newfound fortune.
Asked about her plans for the windfall, the woman said she is planning to go on vacation to Nicaragua.
At the same time, the winner said she considers buying a house.
After the applicable state and federal taxes, the woman’s bank account increased by $180,039.
Each 500X The Cash ticket costs $50 and grants players a chance to win a prize between $50 and $10m.
There are a total of five top prizes of $10m each at odds of 1 in 3,261,006.
On the other hand, the tier-two prize of $250,000 marks the first such prize won from the $50 scratch off game.
There are nine more prizes of $250,000 each in play, and the odds of winning one are 1 in 1,630,503.
A tier-three prize from 500X The Cash awards $50,000 and there are 25 such prizes in play.
The odds of winning a tier-three prize from the $50 scratch off are 1 in 543,501.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the newly launched game are 1 in 3.33.
