A Michigan lottery club recently claimed a hefty prize from Mega Millions, the popular lottery game that is available in 45 US states along with the US Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.
On Wednesday, the Michigan Lottery confirmed in a statement that a two-member lottery club from Kalamazoo called Blue Bridge claimed a $1 million prize from Mega Millions.
The winning ticket of the lottery club was purchased at the Y & K Party Store on 5658 South Division Avenue in Kentwood.
The Blue Bridge lottery club matched correctly five of the winning numbers from the game's September 3 drawing.
To win $1 million, the lottery club guessed correctly the numbers 12, 41, 43, 52 and 55.
The Lottery confirmed that the club recently visited its headquarters to claim the prize.
Austin Beaudet, a representative of the club, who spoke to Lottery officials said: "Winning still hasn’t sunk in for our club, it feels like a dream for the club members!"
Details on the plans of the club members about the windfall are scarce but what's known so far is that they intend to invest their winnings.
Suzanna Shkreli, the Michigan Lottery's Commissioner, shared her excitement about the latest win.
"Congratulations to the members of the Blue Bridge lottery club on a huge $1 million Mega Millions win," she explained.
Finally, Shkreli pointed out: "The Blue Bridge club is one of six lucky winners of at least $1 million on the Mega Millions game in 2024!"
One member of the club whose name was not disclosed recalled the day they purchased the winning Mega Millions ticket.
"I had a lucky feeling, so I stopped into the party store to buy a Mega Millions ticket," the club member revealed.
After the drawing, the same club member went past the retailer where the ticket was purchased and saw a banner confirming that a $1 million Mega Millions prize was sold at there.
Initially, the lottery club member felt sad that they didn't hold the winning ticket, but that was before they scanned the tickets they held.
Once the club member decided to scan the ticket purchased at the Y & K Party Store, they realized that they matched five balls for a $1 million prize.
"I took out my phone and scanned the Mega Millions ticket on my Lottery app, and when the amount of $1 million came up with confetti, I thought: 'This cannot be real!' I scanned it a few more times to make sure I was seeing it right," the fortunate club member admitted.
