The Ultimate Fighting Championship has a new "master plan" to expand its digs and facilities onto surrounding areas in Las Vegas, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal last week. The plan supposedly looks at finalizing developments on the 70 acres north of the 215 Beltway, between Jones and Rainbow boulevards, which the promotion owns.
Right now, the UFC headquarters, Performance Institute, and the Meta Apex facility are the only facilities built by the promotion, but this may soon be changing, with UFC SVP & COO Lawrence Epstein commenting on the media report, arguing that there were about 35 acres that were still not touched by the company.
"We’re currently in the process of developing a master plan for this facility, which will include hopefully a lot of things, including … a hotel, expansion with our TKO partner WWE, maybe additional collaborations with other sports and entertainment organizations here in Las Vegas."
The Meta Apex facility recently received an upgrade, allowing it to host 1,300 people, but more ideas are coming. The venue now also features a second-floor mezzanine which can accommodate 90 guests, new state-of-the-art kitchens, larger LED screens, retractable bleachers, and more.
UFC President & CEO Dana White confirmed that a plan was indeed in the works, and that the UFC wanted to make use of the properties and land it owned.
"But yeah, I mean, who knows? I mean, this originally was supposed to be a studio for fights, and now we have an arena that we’re already talking about expanding, so who knows," he added.
Epstein was not concrete about what is coming next, but he teased some of the multiple ideas, including a hotel as well as further expansion with the UFC’s "TKO partner WWE."
