The second-largest jackpot from Powerball, a mind-blowing $1.787 billion, has gone down after two incredibly lucky lottery players matched all six winning numbers.
The game's drawing on Saturday, September 6, 2025, saw white balls 11, 23, 44, 61 and 62, along with red Powerball 17 drawn.
Before Saturday, the last time the jackpot from Powerball was hit was back on May 31, 2025.
Besides being the second-largest jackpot, the $1.79bn top prize from Powerball set a new record for the longest jackpot run, surviving successfully 42 drawings before being won.
Not much else is known about the fortunate winners in Missouri and Texas, who matched correctly all winning numbers to win the game's top prize.
Considering that two people matched all winning numbers, the $1.79bn jackpot will be split, with each player receiving $893.5m in annuity payments or a $410.3m one-time cash prize.
If the players pick the annuity option for the full $893.5m prize each, they will receive one immediate payment, followed by 29 annual payments, including a 5% interest per year.
It's important to note that both sums are before the applicable state and federal taxes.
In a majority of cases, winners of large jackpots prefer to receive their prizes as a one-time, lump cash sum.
It's no surprise that the mind-blowing Powerball jackpot attracted many players.
Across the country, there were more than 9.9 million tickets winning a range of cash prizes from the game's latest drawing.
Besides the top prize, nearly two dozen players missed the jackpot prize after matching only five winning numbers.
Still, the 18 players who matched all five white balls in the game's recent drawing won $1m each.
On the other hand, two fortunate ticket holders, one in Kansas and one in Texas, won $2m each by matching all white balls and increasing their prize with the Power Play option for an extra $1.
Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, commented: "Congratulations to our newest Powerball jackpot winners and the Missouri Lottery and Texas Lottery for selling the winning tickets."
Finally, the executive pointed out: "Each $2 ticket sold during this Powerball jackpot run gave players a chance at the prize, while also supporting vital public programs and services in their communities — and that’s worth celebrating!"
The largest jackpot from Powerball was won on November 7, 2022, in California.
At the time, a single winning ticket scored the top prize, which was the astronomical $2.04bn.
