An Iowa woman who stopped to buy ice was shocked by a hefty $100,000 win from a popular scratch-off ticket game.
Earlier this week, the Iowa Lottery confirmed that a Fort Dodge woman won one of the top prizes from its Silver Streak scratch-off ticket.
The 36-year-old woman revealed that as she was driving her kids to dentist appointments, she decided to buy some drinks and stopped at a gas station.
Sadly, the store in question had run out of ice, prompting the woman to make another trip to a nearby location.
The woman decided to stop at Coalville Stop-N-Shop at 23930 Boies St., close to Fort Dodge.
This is when the 36-year-old woman recalled that she had a $20 winning ticket she wanted to exchange.
At the cash register, the teller asked the woman is she wanted to buy more Silver Streak tickets.
"I'm like, 'Sure, give me two Silver Streak tickets,'" the woman told.
The lucky winner added: "And lo and behold, I went to scratch it and revealed $100,000!"
The hefty win nearly brought the woman to tears as she gave the exciting news to her children after scratching off the ticket in her car.
"I don't know how it happened, but it happened. I knew one day hopefully I would get it. Everybody wants that when they're scratching tickets," the 36-year-old winner admitted.
The lucky player visited the Lottery's regional office in Mason City earlier this week to claim her big win.
When a Lottery official asked her about her plans, she said she intends to take her family on a vacation and pay off some loans.
Each Silver Streak ticket costs $10 per play and grants players a chance to win a prize between $10 and a top win of $100,000.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the popular scratch-off game are 1 in 3.25.
On the other hand, winning a top prize of $100,000, such as the one recently won by the Fort Dodge woman, has odds of 1 in 123,394.29.
A tier-two prize from Silver Streak awards $1,000 and the odds of winning such a prize are 1 in 2,440.
Winning a tier-three prize from the game would award players $500 and the odds of scoring such a win are 1 in 149.70.
