Nearly 100 workers at one of the most popular hotel and casino resorts in Las Vegas will benefit from improved benefits and better pay after ratifying a collective bargaining agreement.
The agreement rewards 82 workers at Park MGM, represented by Teamsters Local 986.
Earlier in the week, Teamsters confirmed that the workers unanimously ratified a strong first collective bargaining agreement.
The bargaining agreement covers front desk clerks, room controllers, head cashiers, guest service representatives and lobby ambassadors, a press release from Teamsters confirms.
All those workers play an important role in ensuring each guest benefits from an exceptional experience from check-in to check-out.
Thanks to the newly ratified agreement, the workers will benefit from 10% wages increase.
Moreover, the Park MGM workers will tap into improved benefits, including an enhanced pension plan.
Additionally, the 82 workers will now be able to access the Teamsters Health and Welfare plan that lowers their deductibles by decreasing co-pays and out-of-pocket costs.
Tim Vera, the President of Teamsters Local 986, commented: "These members showed strength and determination from day one and it paid off."
Moreover, Vera pointed out: "Winning a first contract like this is a big milestone that delivers immediate improvements while building lasting power for the future."
Tommy Blitsch, the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show and Casino Division’s Director, was similarly delighted with the latest development.
"This agreement shows what's possible when workers come together and organize," he said.
Finally, Blitsch pointed out: "Strong contracts are built on solidarity, and this victory delivers real improvements that raise standards across the industry."
According to Andrea Mata, one of the front desk clerks and members of Teamsters Local, the latest effort was an easy choice that brought "overwhelmingly positive results."
She added that thanks to the collective bargaining agreement, she and her family will have a better future.
Across the United States, Teamsters represents close to 6,000 workers at hotel and casino resorts.
