Close to 300 workers at Gold Strike Casino Resort in Mississippi voted in favor of unionizing.
This week, a majority of the workers supported joining Teamsters Local 667 for stronger representation, benefits and protections.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was founded back in 1903. Since its foundation, Teamsters has continuously grown and expanded its presence.
To date, the workers' union represents some 1.3m hardworking people in the United States, Puerto Rico, as well as Canada.
In a move that expanded its presence in Mississippi, a group of 280 workers at Gold Strike Casino Resort voted through a card-check majority to join Teamsters.
The workers include food and beverage staff, housekeepers, as well as cocktail waitresses.
Joining the union, the workers are expected to benefit from stronger union representation via a Teamsters contract.
Ultimately, by choosing to unionize, the Gold Strike workers can benefit from higher wages, work benefits, as well as better working conditions.
Erica Guerrero, a cocktail server at Gold Strike Casino Resort and a proud member of Teamsters Local 667, spoke with excitement about the milestone achievement, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.
She explained that a majority of the workers signed their cards because they are aware of the benefits of unionizing.
"I have never felt more empowered. Now we have the strength to fight for fair wages and improved working conditions," Guerro explained.
James E. Jones III, Teamsters Local 667's President, added: "Each day, we build power by growing our membership, and this organizing victory is another step forward."
He added: "These new Teamsters are determined, militant, and ready to help one another."
Last but not least, the President of Teamsters Local 667 said that it is exciting to welcome close to 300 Gold Strike Casino Resort workers to the group.
