Workers at Bally's Black Hawk Casino in Colorado join Teamsters

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters continues to grow its representation in the casino industry.

Earlier this month, workers at the Sphere in Las Vegas voted to unionize with Teamsters.

Now, in Colorado, dozens of workers at Bally's Black Hawk Casino in Black Hawk have organized with Teamsters.

Teamsters will represent more than 100 Black Hawk Casino workers

In a press release, Teamsters confirmed that a total of 110 casino workers at Black Hawk Casino chose to unionize via a card-check process.

Organizing with Teamsters Local 455 marks the first time in the history of Colorado casino workers have unionized.

Through this milestone achievement, the workers will benefit from wage increases, improved benefits, and better working conditions, among other amenities.

Notably, the group of workers includes slot attendants, slot technicians, cashiers, cooks, bartenders, servers, housekeeping and maintenance staff.

Back in November 2025, Teamsters reached a neutrality agreement with Bally's.

As a result, through a card check process, Bally's workers selected representation by Teamsters by signing authorization cards.

The unionization effort marks a major milestone for the workers

Alexander Balza, a housekeeper at Black Hawk Casino and a member of Teamsters Local 455, spoke with excitement about the milestone accomplishment.

"We saw an opportunity to make things better at work, and we took it," he said.

Moreover, Balza pointed out: "These changes will make a real difference not only for us, but for our families as well."

Dean Modecker, Teamsters Local 455's Secretary-Treasurer, was similarly excited.

He acknowledged that the unionization effort by Black Hawk Casino workers marks a major moment in the history of Colorado.

"Our brothers and sisters at Local 455 are excited to welcome the newest bargaining unit to our family. And we're ready to represent and protect them in the fight for a fair first contract," Modecker said in conclusion.

Tommy Blitsch, the Director of the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show and Casino Division, added: "The workers at Black Hawk Casino came together to secure a stronger voice on the job, and they've made history in the process."

He spoke about the outstanding accomplishment by the workers that can now unlock benefits through Teamsters representation.
