The MGM Resorts Foundation has so far awarded $2m in various grants to communities based close to company properties across the United States. The organization has already funded 82 grants to a number of non-for-profit organizations which are working with communities near the sites of MGM Resorts properties in states such as New York, DC Metropolitan, Southern Nevada, Mississippi, New Jersey, Michigan, and Ohio among others.
The funding exclusively focuses on organizations that are assisting with community residents’ basic needs. The money has been raised through the Community Grant Fund maintained by MGM Resorts employees which is filled with their help, and the help of willing guests. Employees are serving on special dedicated Community Grant Councils and advocate for communities where they are based to enact positive change.
Each employee can advocate for non-for-profit organizations which can then use the funds to advance local social causes. MGM ResortsInternational Executive Director of Community Engagement, Maria Jose Gatti, welcomed the level of self-organization and commitment by employees and local communities.
"Year after year we are amazed at the generosity of our employees and now guests. In 2022, MGM Resorts employees gave to 82 nonprofit organizations that serve the communities where we live and work," Gatti said in an official press release. She thanked those who have been donating actively to the fund and said that the money has been used to advance a number of good causes, ranging from food and shelter to medical care and mental health.
The MGM Resorts Foundation has been around for two decades now. Originally established in 2002, it sought to empower company employees who wanted to bring real change to their communities. Since then, the Foundation claims to have allocated more than $100m in donations to 1,500 charities.
This impacts the company’s own ability to operate in individual regions, as it strengthens the livelihood and resiliency of local communities, creates jobs, and focuses on cultivating skilled workers. The company has no intention of discontinuing the Foundation as contributions continue to flow and real impact can be felt across targeted areas.
The company had a good start to the year with Q1 2022 results netting it $2.9bn in revenue.MGM Resorts also hailed the end of COVID-19 testing for international travelers in Nevada this June, arguing that tourism will pick up as a result and Las Vegas has seen a further boost in its leisure and entertainment revenue.
