Casino Guru emerged as the runner-up at the 2026 SBC Awards Europe, taking Silver in the Casino Affiliate of the Year category. The prestigious event honored a number of companies from the gambling sector in multiple categories. Notably, the award highlights Casino Guru's ability to offer consumers a detailed and insightful approach when evaluating leading online casino brands.

In Turkey, a massive operation against illegal gambling and money laundering was executed earlier this week. The actions of law enforcement disrupted the operation of a large-scale illegal gambling ring that processed approximately $3bn in transactions monthly. Nearly two dozen suspects were arrested, while 15 others remain at large.

Caesars Entertainment, the leading hospitality, entertainment and gambling company, has become the latest operator to prohibit the use of credit cards on its gaming platforms. As a result, Caesars Digital's brands, including Horseshoe Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino, Caesars Racebook and Caesars Palace Online Casino, among others, no longer support credit cards.

The company joins a growing list of operators that have suspended the use of credit cards for gambling. Other operators that have recently taken similar actions include DraftKings, FanDuel, as well as bet365 and BetMGM, among others.

Business and finance

Wind Creek Chicago Southland was recognized with a prestigious environmental certification. The property obtained an Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, highlighting its ability to implement low-emitting construction materials and efforts toward minimizing its ecological impact.

Interviewed by CNBC recently, Warren Buffett cautioned against prediction markets, comparing such day trading to gambling. He criticized the concept of prediction markets offering "one-day options," acknowledging that such transactions are not investing but speculating, adding that this essentially makes the activity resemble gambling.

Despite being in the sights of lawmakers across the United States, prediction markets continue to grow unhindered. One of the main reasons why prediction markets have exploded is the wide variety of futures contracts they offer, including trading on culture, politics, music and sports.

A recent study looked into the impact of cannabis on tourism in Las Vegas. According to the research, conducted by Robin Goldstein, Cannabis Economics Group Director at UC Davis in California, Las Vegas and Nevada's tourism may be taking an economic hit due to the restricted sale of cannabis.

Ahead of the FIFA World Cup, hotel bookings in the U.S. are yet to pick up. Data from the American Hotel & Lodging Association suggests that the upcoming FIFA World Cup hasn't boosted hotel bookings which remain below expectations. The Association surveyed hotel owners in nearly a dozen cities, uncovering that 80% of the respondents say the current booking numbers are below the projections.

Scott Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, spoke about the importance of financial literacy, outlining that young Americans shouldn't be playing the lottery. He encouraged young adults across the country to refrain from engaging in games of chance, including lottery, explaining that money spent on gambling activities can instead be invested.

Regulation and laws

A gambler from Raynham, Massachusetts, who allegedly lost "tens of thousands of dollars," filed a lawsuit against Kalshi. The man admitted to struggling with his gambling addiction and losing thousands while trading sports event contracts via the popular market prediction platform.

At the epicenter of the legal complaint is the Statute of Anne, which argues that gamblers can sue any "illegal gambling operator" to recover their money. It is unclear whether or not the lawsuit will gain traction, considering that Kalshi officially doesn't offer gambling activities, but trades futures contracts and the platform is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

In an effort to tackle illegal gambling, the UK Gambling Commission, the country's gambling watchdog, announced the creation of a new dedicated position. The expert who will be in charge of that role will lead the gambling regulator's fight against illegal gambling. "This role plays a critical part in delivering the Commission’s broader strategy to combat illegal gambling, directly contributing to the creation of a safer and more transparent gambling environment across Great Britain," the Commission's job post reveals.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board renewed the license of Parx Casino. Extending the license, the venue continues to operate while employing roughly 2,300 people. Parx Casino has nearly 3,000 slot machines, more than 150 table games, a sportsbook and a range of other amenities, making it a go-to gaming and entertainment destination in Pennsylvania.

Responsible gambling

FanDuel joined forces with the renowned sports broadcaster, Erin Andrews, who was designated as the company's newest Responsible Gaming Ambassador. In that role, Andrews will help with the development of responsible gaming content, reaffirming FanDuel's dedication to responsible gambling. The collaboration sees Andrews join the operator's Responsible Gaming Ambassador program, which includes the former NBA player, Randy Livingston, among others.

The International Center for Responsible Gaming announced the appointment of Ashlee Olujic to the role of Director of Tribal and Community Engagement. In that role, Olujic will connect the organization with tribal community stakeholders, regulators, and leaders. Assuming the role of Director of Tribal and Community Engagement, Olujic said that she is honored to strengthen the partnerships between the ICRG and tribal nations, while playing a major role in advancing research on gambling disorder.

Penn State’s Collegiate Recovery Community announced the launch of a new campaign called "Know the Odds," addressing gambling addiction in students. With fighting stigma, the program seeks to raise awareness of gambling disorders and offer much-needed support.

The voice of the industry
