The popular gaming and entertainment resort and a go-to location in Illinois, Wind Creek Chicago Southland, celebrates a major milestone by obtaining an environmental and energy certificate.
The venue revealed that it awarded the prestigious Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, highlighting its dedication to protecting the environment and effectively using low-emitting construction materials that minimize the venue’s ecological impact.
The development of Wind Creek Chicago Southland began in 2022 and the hotel and casino resort opened its doors to visitors in 2024.
From the start of the construction, the venue focused on sustainability, as the lot of land used for the venue was redeveloped, enabling the project to limit potential environmental disruption while preserving natural areas.
Using best-in-class water metering, green power and implementing carbon offsetting programs, Wind Creek Chicago Southland is able to better control the use of resources and emissions.
At the same time, the hotel and casino resort uses island reduction strategies that help prevent localized temperature increases.
Wind Creek Chicago Southland stands out with a comprehensive indoor air quality system, enhanced acoustic performance and uses low-emitting construction materials.
Ultimately, those efforts protect the well-being of guests and team members while supporting comfort.
Brent Pinkston, Wind Creek Hospitality’s EVP Chief Operating Officer, spoke with excitement about the latest prestigious certification, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.
"We're always focused on long-term impact and that includes strengthening the communities we serve," the executive said.
Moreover, Pinkston pointed out: "This recognition speaks to how we're investing in the Southland by not only creating a destination, but also supporting a sustainable future for the places our Team Members and Guests call home."
Peter Templeton, the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) President and CEO, was similarly excited.
"The work of innovative building projects like Wind Creek Chicago Southland is a fundamental driving force in transforming the way our buildings are built and operated," he said.
Moreover, Templeton pointed out: "Buildings that achieve LEED certification are lowering carbon emissions, reducing operating costs, and conserving resources while prioritizing sustainable practices and human health."
The LEED certification was developed by USGBC and represents one of the most widely used green building rating systems across the globe.
