Two years after opening its sports betting venue near Wrigley Field in Illinois, DraftKings, the leading betting and gaming company, announced it will soon stop accepting in-person sports bets at that location.
Confirmation about the operator’s decision came on Monday.
DraftKings explained that it has decided to stop accepting in-person sports bets at DraftKings Sportsbook at Wrigley Field, effective at the end of May.
This move comes after the company has conducted a review of its retail operations in Illinois.
While DraftKings will no longer accept in-person bets, the company confirmed that the venue will remain open and visitors can enjoy the restaurant and bar there.
"While we are proud of what we have built alongside the Chicago Cubs, we are taking a more focused approach to where we invest in the state," the leading betting and gaming company explained in a statement.
DraftKings pointed to the exact reason why it has decided to make changes to its retail offering, citing the high tax structure in Illinois.
"The cost of operating in Illinois, including its high tax structure, makes it more difficult to justify continued investment in a standalone retail sportsbook," reads DraftKings’ statement.
Visitors to the operator venue won’t be able to place in-person bets after May 31, 2026, but the company said that it remains committed to serving its customers via its mobile sportsbook.
According to DraftKings, in-person cashing at Wrigley Field will be available for customers through June 30, 2026.
After that date, the operator will process and redeem winning tickets and vouchers via mail.
