One of the most popular competitive shooters, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), has received a major update.
Valve announced a significant update to the game affecting the mechanics related to reloading.
Previously, CS2 players had the option to fire a couple of rounds and reload their weapon without losing the remaining ammunition in the magazine.
This method can be described as "topping off," considering that a player can shoot only one round, reload and keep the remaining ammunition, has now changed.
An update to CS2 on Thursday effectively changed the reloading method and now, whenever the player initiates a reload on their weapon, they lose all of the remaining ammo from that particular magazine.
The new rule applies to all weapons in the game, and it doesn't matter if the player has shot a single round from the magazine or only a few rounds are left, the leftover ammo is dumped with the magazine and no longer available.
According to Valve's announcement, reloading in CS2 has to have higher stakes, hence the update.
"We think the decision to reload should have higher stakes, so in today's update reloading has been redesigned. Now, when you reload, you'll drop the used magazine and discard all of its remaining ammo. Instead of 'topping off' your weapon with a few bullets, a new full magazine will be taken from the reserves whenever you reload," reads the announcement of the game's update.
Depending on the type, some CS2 in-game weapons have three extra magazines, while others have fewer.
In the case of some guns, less reserve ammunition is provided to encourage accuracy and efficiency.
On the other hand, some weapons in CS2 have more reserve ammo and can be used for spamming through walls and smokes.
"Keep an eye on your reserve supply," the game developers wrote.
It is yet to be seen how the update to the reloading of weapons in CS2 will impact the esports competitions and tournaments.
Undoubtedly, the update will significantly change some players' strategies.
