Esports and the U.S. Navy connect in an interesting fashion, considering that the Navy is looking for Sailors to compete for primary team member billets at upcoming tryouts.
Successful candidates would represent the Navy as part of its esports team, engaging in competitive gaming tournaments and public outreach events across the United States.
Confirmation about the upcoming tryouts for competitive gaming billets comes from a press release by the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
The Navy is looking for motivated and professional Sailors for the upcoming tryouts scheduled between June 6 and June 7, 2026.
To be eligible for the tryouts, Sailors must by pay grade E-4 or above, must have passed their most recent Body Composition Assessment as well as their most recent Physical Readiness Test.
In addition, candidates must be in good standing with their current command and have no non-judicial punishment issued over the past three years.
Notably, the tryouts will cover three popular esports gaming titles: Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and Rocket League.
Per the announcement: "All applicants will be required to compete in all three games during the tryout process."
Successful esports players who are selected will receive three-year orders to the Navy Esports Facility in Memphis, Tennessee.
Notably, they will represent the Navy esports team and compete in popular gaming events, including but not limited to TwitchCon, DreamHack and Fleet Weeks, among others.
Engaging with fans, the esports team members may travel across the country and even abroad.
"The Navy Esports Team supports Navy Recruiting Command’s mission by connecting with the next generation through gaming, technology, teamwork, and leadership while showcasing opportunities available through Navy service," the announcement further reads.
