Another big prize has been claimed in the United States with the K &K Trust of Waltham scooping up a $15m prize pool in Massachusetts. The trust won playing the $15,000,000 Money Maker instant ticket game and the award was picked by trustee Leo Cushing who posted for the photo-op with the big lottery check and a beaming smile.
The trust has similarly opted to scoop up the whole amount in one bulk sum, which amounts to $9,750,000 before taxes. Cushing, representing the winner, said that the anonymous person had said they would use the money to take care of their family and children, as do most lottery winners.
As to the winning ticket itself, it was sold at One Stop Mart, 337 Boston St. in Lynn, which fetched the outlet $50,000 for the sale of the ticket as well. For those of you who have come across this for the first time, Massachusetts does allow lottery winners to set up a trust and then send a representative to claim the lottery winnings instead.
Since lottery winnings are not anonymous in the Bay State, the trust option has been regarded as an acceptable middle ground. A trust is set up and a trustee will pose for the photo-op holding the check and pick the award.
Of course, Massachusetts is hardly the only place where lottery millionaires have been minted in recent days. A Powerball ticket that was bought in Pennsylvania ended up scooping up the latest Powerball jackpot worth $214m, although the prize has not been claimed at the time of writing.
Elsewhere in the world, a pair of lifelong friends spent 20 years trying to win the lottery, until they eventually did just last week! The pair of Australians split a $1.25m jackpot.
