The March 17 Mega Millions drawing has produced a winner, with one player scooping up the reward just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
The winner, who purchased their ticket in Ohio and is most likely a local, will now be able to claim the $60m prize provided they can furnish the ticket and appear in person to collect the prize.
According to the Mega Millions lottery, the ticket was bought at Tyler’s Short Stop at 714 E. Main Street in Van Wert, Ohio. However, the venue is not far from the Indiana border, suggesting that someone may have been visiting when they purchased the ticket or were on their way out of state.
Nevertheless, someone now has a legal claim to the jackpot, with the deadline for obtaining the reward having started. Mega Millions options may be obtained in one of two ways - either as an annuity, which will progressively become larger, or as an outright cash payout.
The one-time lump sum will be reduced to $27.1m; however, should the winner choose this. Most people prefer to go after the cash, even though it reduces their total payout by a significant margin.
Other tickets in Ohio also won, with two securing $20,000 each. The most recent Mega Millions lottery win comes only seven days after the previous one, on March 10, when another person, in Illinois, won the $244.2 million jackpot (cash option).
