A man who stopped to buy a coffee and decided to give a $5 lottery ticket a try was shocked by a six-figure windfall.
The Maryland Lottery has announced that a Bowie man scored the last progressive jackpot from its FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Walk-off Winnings game, closing it for the season.
The fortune winner purchased his ticket at a 7-Eleven located at 3570 Crain Highway in Bowie.
After selling the progressive jackpot-winning ticket, the retailer will benefit from a $1,000 bonus.
The lucky man decided to use an alias, "Big J," instead of his real name.
In an interview with an official from the Maryland Lottery, the winner said that he was feeling lucky lately and anticipated that something big was going to happen.
"I kept thinking I was going to hit the jackpot," Big J said.
The lucky lottery player, who works as a landscaper, admitted that after buying a coffee recently, he decided to also purchase a $5 FAST PLAY ticket.
Once he was back home, the man saw that the number 25 under "Your Numbers" matched the number 25 under "Winning numbers". This brought him the game's life-enhancing $147,550 progressive jackpot.
"I was shocked. It took me a few minutes to realize that I won. I had to drink more sips of my coffee," Big J said, recalling the moment he realized that a $5 lottery ticket brought him a six-figure prize.
Late last week, the fortunate man visited the Maryland Lottery to claim his big win.
Asked about his plans for his newfound fortune, the man admitted that he will first keep the money in his bank account but may later consider buying a vacation home.
After the latest $147,550 progressive jackpot win from FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Walk-Off Winnings, the Lottery closed the game for the season.
