On April 29, 2026, two incredibly fortunate lottery players matched all winning numbers to win a share of the $143m Powerball jackpot at the time.
Earlier this week, one of the winners, an Indiana resident, claimed their share of the huge jackpot.
Considering that the Powerball jackpot of $143m was won by two players, one in Indiana and one in Kansas, they split it equally, each receiving $71.7m as payout.
In the case of the Indiana player, she purchased her winning ticket at Al’s Supermarket on 702 E. Lincolnway in La Porte.
Interestingly, the fortunate player simply marked the numbers that formed a vertical line on the playslip and entered the Powerball April 29 drawing.
A few days after the drawing, the La Porte woman recalled that she purchased tickets and sat in her car to check them.
As she took the tickets, one of them flew out of the window and as she was just about to chase it, she saw another ticket in her hand that looked like it had the winning numbers.
Looking at the ticket carefully, the woman was shocked to realize that she had just won the Powerball jackpot.
"I was numb. I was just speechless, in disbelief," the lucky Indiana player revealed in a press release.
Considering her life-changing win, the woman totally forgot about the ticket that flew out of her car window.
Earlier in the week, the fortunate woman visited the Hoosier Lottery to claim her share of the life-changing jackpot.
She claimed the $71.7m sum as an LLC and instead of annuity payments for the full sum, picked a lump sum cash payout of $32.6m.
Sarah M. Taylor, the Hoosier Lottery’s Executive Director, spoke about the jackpot win.
"Indiana’s connection to Powerball began with the game’s very first jackpot winner in 1992 and more than three decades later, we’re still making history," she revealed.
Moreover, Taylor acknowledged that the Powerball drawing on April 19 delivered a record-setting 40th jackpot win, while also making 19 other people millionaires.
"With this claim, we’ve had the privilege of celebrating each Champion of Play and closing out Indiana’s Millionaire Moment," Taylor said in conclusion.
