A mother, whose child predicted she would win the lottery, won a life-enhancing $100,000 prize.
On Monday this week, the North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed that a Lexington player won a tier-two prize from its MAX-A-MILLION scratch-off game for a sweet $100,000 payday.
The winning ticket was purchased by the fortunate woman at the Quality Mart located on Cotton Grove Road in Lexington.
The lucky woman, a mother of three, recently visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters to claim her big win.
After the relevant state and federal taxes, the woman's bank account increased by $71,758.
The woman admitted that she scratched off her ticket while she was in her car with her husband.
Scratching off the ticket, one of her children told her: "I hope you win on number 55."
The Lexington woman was pleasantly surprised and even shocked when she saw that 55 was exactly the winning number on her ticket.
Scoring $100,000, the woman was in disbelief and said: "I was like, ‘Did we really win this?' I couldn’t believe it."
Moreover, the lucky winner said: "This is pretty awesome."
Asked about her plans for the newfound fortune, the lucky woman admitted that she is going to use some of the winnings for works on her home.
The rest of the prize money, she said, will be put into savings.
Each $30 MAX-A-MILLION ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $30 and $1m.
The game was launched by the North Carolina Education Lottery on March 4, 2025, and at the time, it offered 25 top prizes of $1m each at odds of 1 in 363,970.8.
So far, 19 prizes of $1m remain up for grabs.
On the other hand, a tier-two prize of $100,000 offers odds of 1 in 909,927.
After the most recent $100,000 win, now eight such prizes remain in play from the popular scratch-off game.
On the other hand, a tier-three prize from the MAX-A-MILLION scratch-off game awards $20,000.
The odds of winning such a prize are 1 in 454,963.5 and out of 20 such prizes, 16 remain in play.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the $30 ticket are 1 in 2.95.
