Unclaimed lottery prizes are nothing out of the ordinary, as buying a lottery ticket has been trivialized to a weekly ritual that seldom bears any fruit. Yet, the Washington Lottery is not losing faith as a $1.3-million winning ticket for the state’s Lotto game has not yet been claimed, but there is still plenty of time for its owner to show up and scoop up the massive reward.
The ticket was sold on June 22 at the Muckleshoot Casino Resort in Auburn, Washington, and the lottery released a press statement last Friday, reminding people to take a good look at their neglected lottery tickets – there is a good chance that one of those may be the winner. The resort was very happy with having had the opportunity to sell the winning ticket, too, as the property will get a $13,000 premium.
"When we learned that we had sold the winning ticket and were receiving a bonus, we were absolutely thrilled. We’re already planning on how we’re going to celebrate as a team," Muckleshoot Casino Resort Executive Director of Marketing Robert Dearstine.
This is not the first time the property has sold winning tickets either! The property sold two winning tickets that led to payouts in June as well, making it a popular place to pick one of the winning tickets after all!
Lotto is a particularly popular game owing to its high potential for payouts and sizeable jackpot offers. The game essentially costs $1 to secure two entries, whereby you will just pick six numbers between one and 49, hoping that you would match them correctly.
Of course, the odds of this happening are astronomically small – given at one in 6.99 million. In contrast, the odds of getting hit by lightning are one in one million. The base prize of the game is set at one million, but additional funds are accumulated as people play and part of their bets contribute to the total amount of the prize.
As to the mystery winner of the $1.3-million prize purse, there is nothing to worry about yet, as the person would have until December 19, 2024, to scoop up their winnings! The lottery has been in the habit of issuing frequent reminders to players.
Earlier this year, a $400,000 prize ticket expired on May 21, and went unclaimed. The HIT 5 game ticket, added to the millions worth of prizes that have not been claimed this year, the lottery explained.
