Tropicana Las Vegas

The Tropicana Hotel and Casino Las Vegas is set to go up in smoke – or rather down in a spectacular dust-rising controlled explosion on Wednesday, October 9. The last hurrah for one of The Strip’s most iconic properties will come with the accompanying fanfare, media outlets can now reveal.

The Tropicana Las Vegas demolition date is now locked in

Owned by Bally’s Corp., The Tropicana’s fate has been sealed and the demolition will come with a massive display of fireworks designed by Fireworks by Grucci. Anyone who wants to catch the spectacle live, however, will have to stay up late and wait until 2.30 am which is usually not a problem for Las Vegas.

The Tropicana confirmed plans earlier this year that it would be destroyed this fall but remained elusive on the exact date. The last week of casino operations was marked on April 2, and the property made sure to offer plenty of awesome perks to celebrate the end of an epoch, after the property originally opened on April 4, 1957.

Down with the casino, the Tropicana will also blow up the hotel, taking down both the 22-story Tropicana Club and the 22-story Paradise Tower in one of the most spectacular such moves since the demolition of the Trump Plaza in 2021. Both properties will go down in a single blast.

The Tropicana Las Vegas will be replaced by a new stadium for Oakland A’s, a Major League Baseball franchise. The new stadium is set to open doors in time for the 2028 season of the MLB and bring fans together to The Strip for not the usual reasons.

Las Vegas has been actively trying to diversify its fare of entertainment options, hosting the Formula 1 race, and now looking to attract more major sports teams.

Tropicana Las Vegas bows out - won’t impact local economy

The Tropicana Las Vegas demolition marks the end of an epoch, but it similarly turns a fresh chapter in the city’s development as Las Vegas is looking to reinvent itself as more than just the gambling capital of the world.

The tearing down of the iconic Tropicana Las Vegas will also feature a drone show that will help seal the property’s chapter. As to the expected ballpark to go up in its stead, the stadium will cost $1.5bn and will create immediate and long-term value in jobs and potential tourist traffic. The Tropicana Las Vegas is Bally’s Corp.

Estimated 70% to 80% of all casino and hospitality employees are expected to find new employment opportunities as part of Bally’s Corp. or with the company’s help.

Although the implosion is almost certainly locked in, final approval is needed before the date can be lodged in the books. The event can be moved between September 30 to October 8, after acquiring a commercial demolition permit that needs a final stamp by local authorities.
