The broadcast media owned by 37 racecourses in the UK, Racecourse Media Group (RMG), announced a new senior-level appointment. The group confirmed earlier this week that it selected Ben Dowding for the role of Chief Betting Officer. The latest appointment by RMG can be interpreted as a promotion considering that Dowding previously served as Director of Betting for RMG.

Moreover, the announcement comes at a time when the Group merged its International and domestic betting teams. This strategic combination was completed in order to address a growing trend of bookmaker clients seeking global rights. Ultimately, the combination enabled RMG to streamline its operations, creating a combined international and domestic sales team that will be under the strategic guidance of Dowding.

It was back in 2013 when Dowding first joined RMG. Before becoming a part of the Group, he was with The Jockey Club. Once he joined RMG, he held important senior-level roles that included overseeing partnerships and business-to-business relationships. Dowding climbed through the ranks, becoming a Director of Betting. Holding this strategic role, he was tasked with overseeing the Group's collaborations with bookmakers, betting, data and streaming businesses.

While a part of RMG, Dowding played an important role in the group's transition from a bet-to-view model to a watch & bet turnover model. As a result, the Group saw significant growth and an increase in performance. Additionally, Dowding was a key figure in a number of strategic partnerships, including deals with Phenix and STATS Perform, among others.

In a statement, Dowding shared his excitement about the latest appointment. "I am delighted to have been asked to expand my responsibilities internationally," he said. Finally, the new Chief Betting Officer pointed out: "There are significant and exciting opportunities to enhance further both revenues and awareness for British and Irish racing via this new collaborative approach to the domestic and global betting markets."

Nick Mills, RMG's CCO, was just as excited about the latest announcement. "Ben has a huge amount of expertise in the sector and I wish him every success leading the team to capture new international opportunities," he explained.
