Another day in Atlantic City has made another millionaire with an out-of-state visitor to New Jersey's gambling heart walking away with a $1,593,457 prize under their belt.
The win was unexpected for the first-time visitor to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, but most certainly a cherished experience.
The player, who wished to stay anonymous, turned a total of $87 spent on the Wheel of Fortune slot machine into a seven-figure payday.
Not only that, but this is one of the biggest jackpots that has been won on the floor of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City from slot machines since June 2018. The player will be able to cash out the jackpot as a 2-year annual annuity payout.
However, not everyone has had the same good fortune with jackpots. Some patrons have been outright livid at the establishments they visited and won a jackpot at, claiming that some venues have withheld jackpots and refused to pay.
Another recent case also concerns a big win on Atlantic City casino floors, but the result is not as cheerful. The woman, one Roney Beal, 72, said that she also won on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at Bally’s Casino, but was refused the payout.
The casino explained that the jackpot had occurred as a result of a technical glitch, which exempts the casino from responsibility for paying the money to the patron. Beal said that she had won $2 million in February and that she had not been able to retrieve the money as of May.
Beal’s win came after she spent $1,000 on various machines on the casino floor and decided to give Wheel of Fortune one last shot, betting six or seven times. This is when good fortune supposedly struck as Beal heard the machine announce, "You’ve won."
Shortly after, a message popped up that the machine had become unplayable because of a malfunction or an error. Beal was supposedly asked to leave the casino while being informed that she could not claim the winnings.
"Bally’s has no comment on this incident as we’re only the casino who houses the machine," the company said in a statement, suggesting that IGT, the owner of the Wheel of Fortune slot machine is to blame.
