The Maxx Crosby trade may have fallen through, as confirmed by the Baltimore Ravens general manager, Eric DeCosta, but new details have emerged about how the star edge rusher found out the news about the Raiders’ intentions to trade him.
According to UFC CEO Dana White, who gave a statement at the Zuffa boxing press conference, Crosby was on his way to a Power Slap event when he found out that the Raiders were planning to trade him to the Ravens.
The slapping competition is held in Las Vegas, and Crosby has been a fan, reveling in the local entertainment scenery and calling himself a forever-Raiders man. However, Crosby was not too excited at first to find out that he was traded and did not attend the Power Slap contest.
In White’s own words: "He was just pulling in to Power Slap, and he just found out at the same time. He didn't know, either... He turned around, went home, and said, 'I'm not going to Power Slap. I'm going to lay low for a few days."
Therefore, the recent news this week that the Ravens have backed out of the deal with the Raiders could have come as a relief to Crosby, who is keen to stay in the city.
White commented that Crosby was "obviously excited" about the prospect of playing for the Ravens, but confirmed that the athlete would continue to live in Las Vegas, having just paid for his house.
Crosby will not have to deal with the Ravens trade, though, as the team has backed out only this week, potentially worried about health issues with Crosby’s knee. The player underwent surgery in January and would need several months to fully recover.
In the meantime, the Raiders may still see if they can trade him away, as they are hoping to get draft capital.
