Only recently, the Chicago Bears faced the Cleveland Browns, with the former opening their 2026 preseason with a convincing victory against the latter.
Jason La Canfora, the award-winning NFL reporter, insider and analyst, spoke about the preseason game.
In an interview for Casino Guru News, the expert said: "Shedeur Sanders is still going to have to show that he can play in this league in some capacity, and whether that’s as a backup, a long-term backup or what have you."
Focusing on the game against the Bears, La Canfora said: "But Shedeur Sanders was bad against the Bears. He did make one nice throw early in that game, but he had an interception that just really can’t happen at this level."
The NFL insider added that after Sanders’ unsatisfactory interception, Dylan Gabriel was pretty much in the same situation.
La Canfora suggested that Browns’ head coach, Todd Monken, is aware of the massive financial investment in Deshaun Watson. In this context, the expert predicted that it is unlikely for the Browns to bench Watson without a solid reason as the ownership is expecting to return on its investment in him.
"And while Shedeur Sanders will start the second preseason game, I don’t anticipate, nor does anyone I talked to in the League, anticipate that going nearly as well as it would have to go to actually prolong this faux competition much longer," La Canfora added.
Finally, the award-winning NFL reporter, analyst and insider spoke about the upcoming announcement of the Browns’ starting quarterback.
"And we suspect by the third preseason game, based on what we’re hearing, that Deshaun Watson will be named officially the Browns starter," La Canfora suggested.
