The Las Vegas Raiders were hoping that they could trade Maxx Crosby, their star edge rusher, and bolster the team’s NFL Draft capital, as they look for other players to boost the franchise’s overall performance.
These plans have now been dashed, as the Baltimore Ravens have backed out of the much-anticipated trade. Maxx Crosby, said Eric DeCosta, the Ravens general manager, would not be acquired by the franchise, after concerns emerged during the team’s medical evaluation of the player.
DeCosta confirmed that Baltimore felt strongly about acquiring Crosby, but a follow-up evaluation of the trade led the team to conclude that it could not move forward with the deal.
"One of the key things is you bring the player in, and you try to get as much information as you can. We did that, and we were not able to complete the process of acquiring a player based on our assessment of the situation," although it was not a light decision to make, DeCosta said that the Ravens would stick by it.
He argued that the club was "gutted by it" and that it was a "big regret" for the manager personally. However, despite DeCosta’s desire to carry out the trade, his loyalty lay to his team first, and he had to do what was best for the franchise.
"Nobody's more upset about this than me," the manager added. The reason for this cancellation most likely has to do with a knee injury Crosby suffered during the 2025 NFL season. He did power through for several games, but had to be withdrawn in Week 15following a loss to Philadelphia.
The meniscus repair surgery was carried out in January 2026, and it should take about three to four months to heal, but with the trade falling through, this may indicate that Crosby’s recovery is not progressing as expected.
The Ravens could just feel that Crosby would not be back to a place where they feel they can rely on him, observers mentioned. Baltimore’s decision is final as well, as they have already paid $112 million for Trey Hendrickson, the former Cincinnati Bengals player, who will be joining the team. Baltimore intended to acquire both Crosby and Hendrickson originally.
