An incredibly fortunate player from Muskegon County, Michigan, thought that he won $100 from the Michigan Lottery's Fire & Ice Cashword instant game.
Undoubtedly, realizing that his win was actually $300,000 came as a shock for the 64-year-old lottery player.
The Michigan Lottery announced Monday that the lucky player preferred to remain anonymous.
When speaking to lottery officials, the man said that plans to use the win to pay bills and payments on his truck. A part of the winning sum he also intends to save.
The winner recently visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his hefty prize.
The 64-year-old player said: "Winning $300,000 still doesn't feel real! This prize is going to allow me to live comfortably."
The Muskegon County man purchased the winning ticket from the Northshore E-Z Mart at 1385 Holton Road in North Muskegon.
The recent Fire & Ice Cashword instant game winner revealed that he played regularly.
He said that once he scratched off the ticket, he thought that he won $100.
The man scanned the ticket to be sure but received a message to file a claim with the Michigan lottery.
At the time, the 64-year-old thought that this was a strange message, considering his ticket only won $100.
Visiting a retail outlet, the winner asked a clerk to check the ticket.
This is when the clerk told him: "You won the jackpot," words that the Muskegon County man likely won't ever forget.
Thinking about a way to tell his family, the lucky winner came home and asked his son to check the ticket.
The winner said that his son was "stunned" when he realized the win was $300,000. "It was so exciting to share the news with my family," said the 64-year-old lottery player.
Currently, there are more than $13 million in prizes remaining from the Fire & Ice Cashword instant game.
The popular scratch-off game launched back in August 2023 and has so far paid out more than $20 million in prizes.
The cost per ticket is $5 and each ticket grants a chance for prizes between $5 and $300,000.
Upon launching the ticket, there were three top prizes of $300,000 each.
However, considering the latest win, there are no more outstanding top prizes.
On the bright side, four prizes of $10,000 each remain in play, while 27 prizes of $2,000 each are also up for grabs.
