An incredibly fortunate grandmother turned a boring doctor’s appointment into a life-changing win.
The winner scored division one from Powerball, collecting a multi-million-dollar lottery prize.
The lucky woman, a Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, grandmother, decided to give the Powerball game a try.
Entering draw 1562, the woman purchased her 36-game QuickPick entry via The Lott’s official website.
Powerball draw 1562 saw winning numbers 11, 34, 30, 35, 28, 4 and 29, along with the Powerball number 3, drawn.
Interestingly, across Australia, there was a single division one winning entry - the one held by the Apple Isle resident.
As a result, the winner scored AU$5m ($3.6m) Powerball top prize, but her total payout increased to AU$5,213,405.25 ($3.7m) because of the number of entries for the game’s particular drawing.
Equally as exciting, since the start of the year, there have been a total of four major lottery wins from Tasmania.
Overall, players have collected more than AU$13.27m in prize money.
Contacted by an official from The Lott, the lucky Launceston woman revealed that she learned the news about the life-changing AU$5m prize last night.
"It’s beautiful! I checked the win last night and I haven’t slept a wink. I laid next to my phone with the prize amount right beside me all night - couldn’t take my eyes off it," the winner recalled.
Moreover, the woman revealed that she was in the waiting room at the hospital on Thursday and felt bored which is why she decided to give Powerball a try to "pass some time."
After winning the whopping jackpot, the woman said that she still can’t believe it and needs to pinch herself.
The winner further added: "I told my husband that we’d won last night and he was in so much shock. I think it will take a while before we can both believe the news."
According to the Launceston grandmother, the lottery prize comes at the perfect moment, considering that she ran into some health issues.
Thankfully, with AU$5m coming her way, the woman can now retire.
Besides spoiling her children and grandchildren by buying them houses, the fortunate player said she won’t forget her beloved dog, which will be "even more spoiled."
