Hailey Welch, the 22-year-old Internet sensation better known as "Hawk Tuah Girl," has entered the crypto space with her very own "memecoin," a fitting continuation of a sprawling if somewhat testy career trajectory befitting an overnight Internet celebrity.
The new cryptocurrency, HAWK, will trade on the Solana blockchain and is expected to launch on December 4.
The move has attracted enough limelight, but also – criticism with observers fuming over Hawk Girl’s decision to enter a space that she clearly has no understanding of, and therefore advising fellow cryptocurrency users to be wary of the project.
Some X users, who commented on the official announcement, said that the project could be a rug pull, although this is unlikely. A rug pull is a practice in cryptocurrency projects whereby the project developers raise money, issue the designated cryptocurrency and then withdraw all FIAT currency, leaving the coin unbacked.
Hawk Tuah Girl has sought to alleviate such qualms in her characteristic Internet parlor – "NOPE," the succinct rebuttal came under the worrywarts’ posts and speculation about the value of the HAWK token.
Hawk Girl has also found a new claim to fame, becoming a self-pronounced "Queen of Memes" according to her X profile. Yet, this is hardly the first time Hawk Tuah Girl has made waves.
Earlier this year, she signed a podcast deal with Jake Paul’s Betr platform, and she patented a sports betting brand, "Bet On That Thang," with opportunities abounding for what Hawk Tuah Girl could do next.
Although her most notable achievement – suggesting an onomatopoeic sexual act on YouTube – had made her an overnight sensation, her celebrity status proved more of a memento to some, with criticism beginning to mount that she was looking to exploit her temporary stardom and turn it into something that it is not.
