Conor McGregor usually makes headlines for his fights, or once upon a time, because he used to assault fellow pub-goers or behaved erratically in his beef with other fighters.
Not any more, as a reformed and a much calmer McGregor celebrated his 36th birthday in style, revealing that a roughly $91,000 wager he placed on a future bet for Spain to win the Euro 2024 has panned out a success, fetching the professional fighter a $1.1m payday.
McGregor took to X to celebrate his victory, sharing it with followers and quickly eliciting, incidentally, 1.1m views on his post as of the time of reporting. This coincidence aside, McGregor pinned Spain as the flat winner of the event and the team did not disappoint routing England in a still-contested 2-1 championship game.

He has become the latest celebrity to stir news about his gambling habits, and he is opening his betting salvo in style. His wager is not a chance thing either, though, as he recently signed up to become Duelbits’, a crypto gambling platform, official brand ambassador.
The bet and subsequent win were placed with Duelbits. Yet, The Notorious narrowly missed an even bigger win, as he also had another $110,000 running on Spain to secure the final with a 3-1 win. So, when Mikel Oyarzabal scored in 86’, McGregor must have had his hopes of securing the correct score wager still.
He did not, but even with this loss, he is still enjoying a flat payout of more than $920,000. Had he won the correct score bet, though, he would have added another $2.7m to his good fortunes. This is in the ballpark of professional UFC fights, as even the biggest ones would pay fairly measly amounts.
However, a boxing showdown against Floyd Mayweather fetched McGregor $100 million, and propelled him to celebrated glory and role-model status, which saw the once irascible fighter do away with his old tricks with involved assaulting opponents on parking lots in the most bizarre manner possible.
Oh, and if this isn’t enough, McGregor also had a $400,000 wager going on Argentina to secure the Copa America title, which the team did, leaving the fighter richer, as he won a total of $700,000.
Celebrity betting has been very common, just think of Drake, although the Canadian music artist was handed a defeat when he tried to bet against Argentina, and was even goaded by fans who used Kendrick Lamar’s "Not like us" to snap back at the rapper.
