Soccer fans tend to be a fissile lot. Give them a reason, and they will eat you alive. Canadian music artist Drake surely gave Argentinian soccer aficionados plenty to take a shot at him, after the rapper placed a $300,000 wager on the country’s national team to lose its Tuesday Copa America game.
The team did not lose, prompting humorous social banter about the infamous "Drake curse" which has been attributed to the rapper’s presumptive ability to tank a team or athlete’s chances of winning by simply placing a bet on them. There have been many such instances of late.
The Edmonton Oilers lost a highly contested series in the Stanley Cup series, and the Dallas Mavericks succumbed to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. The two events have cost the artist $1m in wagers.

Yet, Argentinian fans have taken things personally, unleashing a torrent of sneer on social media, and even turning to a music video by another artist to pour salt on the wound.
For those of you who do not know, Drake and fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar have been beefing prompting Lamar to produce the "Not like us" song and music video, in which he blasted Drake for his supposed failings as a person, father, and artist.
Whatever the beef between the two, Lamar has also used one opportunity to call Drake "a gambling addict," and has taken interest in highlighting the man’s gambling losses.
Argentina’s team took to social media and posted, tagging Drake’s X account, a photo of the team’s players embraced, celebrating their victory, with the image sporting a "Not like us" writing borrowed from Lamar’s music video.
Drake was not entirely wrong in betting heavily against Argentina, as he was looking to realize what could have been a$2.88m payday. Yet, Argentina was posted as the heavy favorite against Canada.
There could have been a patriotic consideration in Drake’s behavior too, paired with the rapper’s risk-averse betting habits.
As Argentina heads to very possibly secure the Copa America championship title, Drake has added to his infamous if somewhat humorous gambling losses.
The rapper is said to have won more than he has lost from gambling, but he has mostly grabbed headlines for losing huge amounts of money, such as the wager he placed on Tyson Fury to beat Usyk Fury earlier this year that cost him $565,000.
