Steve Birch, the former CEO of Sky Betting & Gaming (SBG) and Chief Commercial Officer at Flutter Entertainment, will be departing from the latter company come end of December.
On Wednesday, the executive took it to his personal LinkedIn page to confirm that after 18 years at SBG and Flutter Entertainment, he will be resigning from his role.
Announcing his plans to leave, Birch acknowledged that this was a difficult decision.
He initially joined SBG in 2007 as a Marketing Analyst and climbed through the ranks.
After holding Senior Marketing and Web Analyst roles, he was promoted to Head of Data Strategy in April 2012 and held that role through September 2013 before assuming the position of Head of Sky Bet Commercial.
Throughout his career at SBG, spanning nearly 15 years, he held a number of senior-level roles, including CEO from September 2020 through July 2022 and Managing Director Sky Bet UK between July 2018 and September 2020.
More recently, from June 2022 Birch held the role of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of SBG at Flutter Entertainment.
In this strategic position, he collaborated with the leadership team, played a major role in the development of the company's business strategy and oversaw a range of processes.
Under his guidance as CCO, SBG posted notable increases in revenue and EBITDA, maintaining the company's position in a highly competitive market.
According to Birch's announcement, he will be stepping down from his role at the end of December.
"Over the last 5 years I’ve been part of Flutter, it’s been a pleasure and a challenge, it is incredible at the scale it has there are so many talented people and a culture of success, thanks to Peter Jackson for all your backing and making Flutter what it is, good luck to Dan Taylor ,Kevin Harrington and everyone else for the future," the executive wrote.
"It has been a privilege to work with many amazing people over my time so thank you to everyone, especially to those who I have been on teams with, and those who have had to put up with being part of teams I have led," Birch further wrote.
The executive pointed out that he felt the time for a new challenge is right now.
Last but not least, Birch did not disclose details regarding his future plans but said that he will first enjoy some time off.
