Harry Reid International Airport has been going an undergoing slump, with passenger numbers steadily declining throughout the year, and the latest data from November indicates that the trend has not been bucked.
The airport saw 4.3m passengers register and fly through its gates, which was a decisive decline from both October 2025 and November 2024, with 4.4% and 9.5% respectively.
According to air travel expert Gary Leff, the numbers are indeed a serious drop in the overall number of flyers, even at a time when Las Vegas is making a bid to host more sports and entertainment events, including F1 races, Super Bowl, and NFL games, and more.
Part of this has to do with the way airline dynamics function, with Leff arguing that Spirit Airlines’ reduction in service is directly linked to the overall drop in visitors to the airport. According to the expert, Split Airlines has dropped 40% of its available seats, meaning that fewer people can fly in using one of the best-connected airlines.
November also saw another stand-off in Congress, with budgetary concessions hard to negotiate. The uncertainty, including over air traffic controller and TSA staffing, further contributed to many people deciding against flying, worried about unexpected delays, flight cancellations, and getting stuck in far-flung places, be as Las Vegas.
But not all is bleak, as the overall decline in numbers is about 5.5% on an annual basis through the first 11 months of the year. The airport is not too worried, however, as it has noted that such lulls are possible, especially following busy periods of activity and growth.
Even though 450,000 passengers visited Las Vegas through the airport in November, the airport remains upbeat bout its prospects from here on in. There have been notable drops, however, with 40% fewer passengers coming on Air Canada compared to 2024.
The decline of Canadian passengers could be ascribed to an ongoing political tug-of-war between the United States and the country, with Trump making a series of denigrating comments, including a suggestion to annex Canada as the country’s newest state.
Canadians have not taken kindly to such remarks, cancelling trips to Las Vegas and boycotting American wares and products in a show of national support and pride. Apparently, many have been cancelling their flights down south as well.
