  • FanDuel is ending credit card payments on March 2, responding to consumer and industry trends
  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren has welcomed the move, arguing it was something that the rest of the industry should copy and apply
  • DraftKings previously ended credit card payments nationwide in August 2025, with FanDuel being the second operator to have acted this way now

FanDuel Sportsbook, one of America’s largest sports betting operators, has confirmed in a statement that it will be ending support for credit card payment methods.

This announcement comes several months after DraftKings ended its own support for credit card payments in August 2025, with FanDuel rolling out the new measure effective March 2, 2026.

Sen. Warren welcomes what she calls a move that the industry should follow

The decision was welcomed by US Sen. ElizabethWarren of Massachusetts, who has been an outspoken critic of using credit cards for the purposes of funding sports betting accounts.

Sen. Warren has repeatedly highlighted the fees that are shifting onto consumers, arguing that to fund a $20 bet, users would sometimes need to pay as much as $10 in fees. Many sports bettors have been avoiding credit card use at sportsbooks for this specific reason as well, unwilling to shoulder the extra cost of funding their bets.

Casino Guru's Head of Casino Research, Matej Novota, also weighed in on the importance of removing credit cards from gambling operators:

"FanDuel’s decision to remove credit cards is definitely a step in the right direction. If we are serious about responsible gambling, reducing access to borrowed money for betting is one of the most practical safeguards the industry can implement."

In a statement, the sportsbook explained that it had enacted the changes to improve the "deposit experience" of its customers.

"Over the last few months, FanDuel has been evaluating the payment methods that we offer to customers and made the decision to remove credit cards as an option for our Sportsbook, casino, and racing product in the United States."

Sen. Warren congratulated FanDuel on having opted to remove what she described as "junk fees," and urged other companies to followin DraftKings and FanDuel’s example.

The measure will also affect credit cards used to fund other payment methods, such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Venmo, and so on. FanDuel also has experience with restricting credit card payments, as it had to previously comply with local regulations in Vermont, Tennessee, Connecticut, Illinois, and Massachusetts.

Now, the company is taking measures nationwide. The company also launched the Play with a Plan" responsible wagering campaign earlier this year, seeking to build awareness around the issue of excessive gambling.

FanDuel also recently appointed Keith Whyte as Responsible Gaming Strategic Advisor, a new role highlighting the company's commitment to building a more robust responsible gambling roster.
