Warning NJ sportsbook
  • Caesars Sportsbook has been fined in New Jersey, with the DGE citing specific RG failures
  • Namely, the sportsbook failed to send its daily self-exclusion list to the regulator, and it also failed to include RG signage in its materials
  • Another infringement is allowing people to self-exclude for life through the platform, instead of appearing in person

Caesars Sportsbook will pay a $251,250 fine as part of a settlement with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE). The settlement was reached in relation to what the DGE alleged were responsible gambling failures on the part of the sportsbook.

Caesars settles with New Jersey gambling regulator

Apart from paying the fine, Caesars Sportsbook will also give up another $45,465 in profits. According to the regulator, the sportsbook failed to uphold the mandatory RG prerequisites and self-exclusion standards.

Specifically, Caesars Sportsbook is alleged not to have included the mandatory responsible gambling language in its signage, " Bet With Your Head, Not Over It" along with the helpline number: 1-800-GAMBLER.

Another failure listed by the DGE is non-compliance with the operator obligation to send a daily self-exclusion list, as well as allowing self-excluded players to access the platform. Caesars Sportsbook also offered the option to players to permanently self-exclude directly through the website, but the DGE specifically requires a person who opts for a lifetime self-exclusion option to appear in person.

The DGE has settled with the sportsbook, but cautioned that any further transgressions insofar as responsible gambling mandates would result in stricter enforcement action.
