Canelo Alvarez is one of the world’s most successful and unrelenting boxers. Jake Paul is one of the world’s most successful YouTuber-turned-pugilists who recently defeated Mike Tyson during a Netflix-broadcast eight-round fight.
The two are now close to closing a deal that will see them descend on the T-Mobile arena for another high-profile event that mixes traditional boxing with entertainment. Although Jake Paul has carved out a name for himself over the past year, training hard to gradually shake off his entertainer aura, and transform himself into a serious fighter.
Taking on the Mexican prodigy, however, maybe a bite too large for Jake Paul to stomach. Alvarez has remained largely undefeated bar two bouts against Dmitry Bivol and Floyd Mayweather. Las Vegas Locally, a media outlet, has first broken the news that there may indeed be a time for a fight between Alvarez and Jake Paul.
The idea is not entirely bizarre altogether, but previously, Alvarez has cautioned against turning boxing into a show, valuing unscripted fights over anything else. The publication suggested that this may happen in time for the Cinco de Mayo weekend at the Las Vegas Sphere, but a separate report by ESPN has suggested that T-Mobile would be a more likely venue if the fight is ever agreed upon.
Once again, the fight is likely to be streamed on Netflix, as per sources, with the platform already looking to expand its presence on The Strip with a dedicated restaurant – NETFLIX BITES Vegas.
Netflix has previously streamed the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, which fans criticized for appearing staged, but which drew 65m concurrent streamers on the platform. An official confirmation about an upcoming bout between Alvarez and Jake Paul is yet to be made.
