The Illinois Lottery has more to be happy about as another millionaire winner has been minted. The winner bought the $1-million ticket in a small town southwest of Chicago, and although their name is still unknown and the prize has not been claimed, the Lottery has hurried to celebrate the win.
The "Lotto" game ticket was bought at Citgo at 8755 W. 79th Street in Justice, Illinois, with the lucky soul matching all six winning numbers on Thursday, July 10. The numbers were 5, 11, 16, 23, 25, and 39.
While the winner has not been named in the official press release, the owner of the shop where the ticket was sold was more than happy to chat with the Lottery and celebrate the victory of the anonymous winner in absentia.
William Beahan, the owner of the Citgo gas station, had this to say: "I was out of the country when I got the call from my manager. We have no clue who the winner might be, but I have a strong feeling it was a regular Lotto player from our area."
Beahan acknowledged that he had no idea who the winner was but assured that the entire staff was happy for the person, whoever they were. As to the venue, they will also get a small premium - $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
"The gas station has been under construction for nearly five years, and business has been tough—so selling this winning ticket couldn’t have come at a better time," Beahan added.
The win has been celebrated by the owners as well as the Illinois Lottery itself.
In an official press statement, the Lottery said that this has been the fourth time that a "Lotto" player has won more than $1m this year. Big jackpots have been dropping all over the place, and not only in Illinois.
In North Carolina, a woman managed to flip her $50 scratch-off play into an $8,000,000 payday, making it one of the most significant plays in the history of the lottery.
