That political pundits have been busy planning the outcome of the November ballot has not put paid to speculation about what the incumbent, President Joe Biden may do once he steps out of office.
His abrupt departure from the race several weeks ago has reenergized the Democratic base, ruffled the Grand Old Party’s bigwigs who have bleated that the Democrats do not play fairly, and given bookmakers plenty of field for some cheek-in-tongue betting markets.
BetOnline, for example, has put forward a number of markets that facetiously speculate about what President Biden’s next job may be, although the octogenarian may find most of these suggestions a little bland after serving in his country’s highest office. Regardless, the bookie has put several jocular picks. POTUS may look for a career as:
Essentially, none of these betting markets could be taken seriously. Although a $1 could fetch you $100,000 on the unlikely outcome that President Biden does join NASA as a cadet, there is virtually no way this will happen.
Why is BetOnline inviting you to bet on these unusual outcomes then? The bookmaker is hardly taking itself seriously or looking to turn a profit on someone who wants to see the President taking Anderson Cooper or Wolf Blitzer’s jobs.
Rather, BetOnline has developed a tradition of posting entertainment bets that are not necessarily grounded in reality, a sort of marketing shtick that has seared the brand’s name into the minds of audiences worldwide.
BetOnline is similarly running odds on whether Elon Musk would end up in a fight against Venezuela’s President, Nicolas Maduro, a strongman who has subverted his country’s recent elections and now has widespread unrest and revolution on his hands.
Were such a fight to happen (+1000), Musk would be the underdog (+110) with Maduro being offered the better odds at (-150). BetOnline has also offered some less speculative wagers on President Biden. The company is treading the realm of the plausible by offering markets on whether the President would be seen playing chess (+800), doing a puzzle (+800), playing bridge (+1200), playing bingo (+1200), and other activities.
Part of these markets seemed to be linked to his perceived struggles with cognition, the most suggestive – and tasteless - of which might be "Announce role with Alzheimer’s Association" (+1000).
Betting on the elections is not allowed in the regulated betting market in the United States. BetOnline operates as an offshore gambling operator, and is not available in the United States for the most part.
